Think it took me long enough to get this up?

    By Bethany | March 31, 2008

Yeah, I thought so too.  I had the privilege of attending this game in Chicago.  It was a quick trip, and I went with some of my favorite people in the world.  Anyway, now to the game.  It was a great game, and surprisingly enough, I am pretty sure it was the highest scoring game I have ever been to.  My thoughts, Rusty Klesla had a great game.  He was a brute the entire night.  I noticed on Puck-Rakers they didn’t mention him, but he got injured in the middle of the second I believe, and came right back out.  It was outstanding.  Also, when they scored the tying goal, Kris Russell lost an edge, and instead of getting up he laid on the ice for a good 4 seconds causing a turnover and a goal.  Tough night for Russell.  Aaron Rome is so fun for me to watch, I have watched him play since his Cincinnati Ducks days.  It’s nice to see him getting so many minutes, although he took a stupid penalty by knocking off the goal.  Fredrik Norrena wasn’t outstanding tonight, but I don’t think he got the help he deserved since half of our d-men are up from SyracuseMarc Methot is a lot tougher than I would think, he was hitting guys, pushing and shoving,  doing everything he could.  All in all the boys played bad defensively, and we paid for it.  We couldn’t hold a 3-1 lead.  That is not acceptable.

Alright, here are my thoughts on Chicago’s United Center.

    1. Don’t cheer during the National Anthem, don’t clap, just be quiet…and respectful.  I couldn’t believe it yesterday.  I thought maybe it was just me, but talking to people at school, they don’t it was completely disrespectful.  Glad I’m not the only one.
    2. A large group of Chicago fans kept yelling ‘hit him’ ‘knock him into the ice’ uhm, you can hit them all you want, but that doesn’t get you points.
    3. How cool was it to see Michael Jordan’s banner hanging up there?!
    4. Great fans, I can’t believe how nice their fans were.  It was the third time I have been cheering for an opposing team, and by far the Hawks fans were the nicest.  (For the record the Predators fans are the worst…so far)
    5. LOUD, it was sooo loud in there.  I remember watching games last season and I could hear a pin drop.  Not the case this season.  Good for them.
    6. I loved loved loved all of the Roenick jerseys!!
    7. I enjoyed how they played older music, when they scored…I don’t know why.
    8. The arena was clean which was nice, Tampa Bay’s arena was icky.

The cheering during the national anthem is our BIGGEST tradition. We cheer because we are proud to be Americans! This is our country, we’re happy when our anthem is song!

You should have gone when a Canadian team was playing…dead silence during Canada’s anthem.

Yeah, me too but I have a bit of respect for the flag and the Anthem and what it actually means. I have family members that died in wars, an ex boyfriend (and best friend) in Iraq right now and some of my closest friends are there now…regardless, I’m not a fan of cheering, clapping during the anthem.

Ewwwww Chicago. I was raised never to be nice to the city or teams.

I agree, you should always stand quietly and respectfully when the anthem is sung, and I still say that even though I’m not exactly proud to be an American any longer.

Glad you had a great time- wish they would have won for you.

Are you going to make it up here for the last game? I know a lot of people that are going- I’m still on the fence…

Kirsten lol why is that? I’m glad you agree with me…and I think most people think I’m Canadian…so it doesn’t really matter I guess.

Elisa, I e-mailed you on this, and I still think you should go.

If you’re not a fan of cheering/other things during the National Anthem, don’t go to Stars games… We scream “STARS” so loud you can’t hear anything else.

The only time I’ve cheered for the away team was when I saw the Stars play the Sabres in Buffalo the year after we won the Cup. Talk about rude fans… I was 11 at the time and someone threw a beer at me… Another reason why I hate Buffalo

Amy, yeah, not a big fan, the Stars fans do that when they are in my arena too…I yelled at one guy and told him to STFU…I was bitter…lol.

Someone through a beer at you?! That’s awful!! I have heard the Sabres fans are bad, almost as bad as the Leafs, but you know…
