Thanks for the memories 45!!

Well, after having a little while to digest the Shelley trade I can finally write about it. Even as I read the articles on him I got choked up, partly because I’m a girl and am emotional but, I know KNOW what he was in that room. He was the first Blue Jacket that I met. I talked to him about his first fight in the NHL, Bob Probert. It’s not that Shelley was my favorite Blue Jacket he wasn’t…he’s not even in the top 5. Shelley was a leader in the Blue Jackets locker room, he was the fan favorite. His fights got most of us fans through all the seasons without a playoff berth. I don’t even know what to say…….this hurts more than the loss last night and I don’t know why. It was sudden. It was Shelley…and we got a sixth round pick in 2009……not even this years draft. I don’t know what to say. Here are some quotes from the Dispatch.
“I consider myself from Ohio,” he said late night. “I’ll be back this summer.”
One of the NHL’s most feared fighters had to struggle to fight back tears.
“This organization should be so proud of what they’re doing,” Shelley said. “The fans should be so proud of this team and everything that’s going on here. It’s so classy, and I’m so proud to be able to say I was a Blue Jacket; I really am.”
We will welcome Shelley back on February 27, 2008…with open arms. I had planned on not going to this game, but to see 45 in teal…I will be there.
“It (hurts) because he’s the greatest team guy there is,” winger Jason Chimera said. “It (hurts) to see a guy like that go.”
