    Stanley Cup FINALS

    By Bethany | May 23, 2008

x-posted on The Sports Diva Magazine

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be facing the Detroit Red Wings, in what will be an extremely entertaining Stanley Cup Final.  The Pittsburgh Penguins are young, with a ton of offense, the Detroit Red Wings are aged veterans, they have been here many times before, and will continue to make the playoffs.  The Red Wings are perennial winners.  They have the best drafting in the league, at least in my humble opinion.

My guess for this series is Red Wings in 6.  I have said it all along, the Wings are just too good.  They are complete.  With a goalie A and a goalie B, an outstanding defense, and an offense that is extremely potent, they can’t lose.  Babcock, their coach, has been to a game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals, he has that experience, and I think it’s his turn.  (Totally not trying to take anything away from Michel Therrien who is coaching in his first Stanley Cup Finals.)

This final is so intriguing because neither of these teams have played each other, and none of them, have played a team like the other.  The Western Conference is filled with defense first teams, the Eastern Conference comes at you with offense.  Doc Emrick probably had the best quote about this Stanley Cup Final:

“The hockey gods will be smiling so wide, we’ll be able to count their missing teeth.”

Who should you look out for on the Pittsburgh Penguins?  Sidney Crosby, expect the Detroit defense to be on him at all times.  Evgeni Malkin is always someone to watch, just like Crosby, however Malkin has had an outstanding playoff run.  Jordan Staal lost his grandpa recently, I’m sure it gives him a little extra push  to play harder, for his grandpa.

Who should you look for on the Detroit Red Wings?  Chris Osgood, he hasn’t faced a lot of shots, and typically the Red Wings don’t give up a lot, he has to be outstanding, which he has been this entire playoff run.  The entire Red Wings defense is going to be under attack.  I am anxious to see what they do with the Penguins.

It’s going to be a great series, and it starts tomorrow!!  I can’t wait!!

I’m soooooo geeked for the Cup finals… not only because it’s the Cup finals, but because I maybe possibly might have press creds up at the Joe. :D

      (Can’t go to game 1, though… it’s my 5 year anniversary!)

And I agree, Wings in 6. Crosby and Malkin are maybe a year too young.

Shaggy how did you get creds? Let me know I want creds!!
Happy Anniversary by the way. Make sure you do something nice for your wife, and that you’re back BEFORE the game lol.
