    Rick Nash…Not the MVP

    By Bethany | January 28, 2008

Okay, I really hate being the bitter Blue Jacket fan…but I am telling you that there is something that makes the NHL hate Columbus. I don’t understand. It’s becoming more and more apparent as time goes on. It could be something to do with the fact that we have yet to make the playoffs or maybe it’s because we tend to get more injuries than any other team. I don’t know, whatever it is I don’t like it. But, I have to like what Rick Nash said:

“It’s up to our team to prove something to them,” Nash said. “The ball’s in our court. We’ve got to make the playoffs and play better. It’s all up to us.”

We’re not going to get that respect until we do play better. We have to play consistently every night. We need to show them that we are a force to be reckoned with. Back to the real point of this blog. Rick Nash was robbed last year of the MVP he was on the winning team and had 2 goals and 2 assists. The MVP went to the extremely small Daniel Briere (who I still loathe to this day not because he won MVP but because he’s a freakin annoying little…I’ll stop before I say something mean) who scored 1 goal and had 4 assists but was on the losing side. Nash had the most goals out of anyone in the All Star Game. Eric Staal had 2 goals and 1 assist, he won the MVP, he was also on the winning side.

Is it worth me getting this worked up over? If it was just this incident…then no…but it’s not. It started last year…then with Pazzy being left out. Who might I add is a better goaltender than Chris “I’m a plug” Osgood or Manny “I’m a small fry” Legace. Then with Nash not getting the MVP…again this year…yes it is worth getting worked up over. Let’s forget about Pazzy being left off, and let’s forget about Nash getting the boot last year. Let’s look at what he did in this game.

He started off scoring the fastest goal in All Star Game history. He had TWO breakaways and also an unassisted goal and a hat trick which was the 15th in All Star Game history. What did Eric Staal do? He had two goals…both assisted and an assist on the game winner. That was about it. He never stood out to me…he never was one of those guys that I looked at was like wow he’s having a hell of a game. Nash deserved the MVP, and everyone knows it…and if not Nash then Nabakov for sure for not allowing ANY goals in. That has not happened since 2002 I believe. UGH.

Whatever I suppose I am over it…it’s not like the All Star Game has a purpose anyway.  Mirtle seems to have his own opinion on it…go check it out.

      1) Yes Nash got hosed in the MVP voting. But the biggest slap at Columbus was why wasn’t Pascal Leclaire there????

That was a HUGE slap in the face…I try not to think about it.

Only one thing to do now - Carry the flag - all the way to the playoffs and beyond
