    Post Game, Part 2

    By Bethany | March 10, 2008

“I thought our team played hard, defended well, didn’t give them many opportunities at all. Scored a couple of goals, played good enough to lose.”

John Tortorella, Tampa Bay Lightning Coach

Ya know, I had to start out with that quote.  Both teams played well the first two periods, but the Jackets were able to finish.  Let’s be honest though goaltender Mike Smith had a bad night.  He is a great goaltender, just ask Cat.   The Jackets took some bad penalties, probably none as bad as Jan Hejda on the Vinny breakaway.  That sucked…bad, no worries though, the game turned out fabulous, I have to say I loved all of Hitch’s quotes:

“It was like three hockey games out there. The first period they were all over us pretty good, then we got that second goal. We played great in the second period and then, all of the sudden, in a two minute span – bang, bang – tied up and then the track meet was on in the third.”

    “Relieved would be the word.”

“We’re counting that as a power play goal. You can do whatever you want to do with your percentages, put them in any location you’d like, but we’re counting that as a power play goal.”

“Right now, all it is is relief. You knew it was going to be bizarre. To come back and win in the third period is the best feeling for us right now. You start to have doubt in your game … but winning like tonight can relieve some of those problems.”

    Coach Ken Hitchcock

He seemed a bit shocked that we won, well I don’t know that shocked was the word, I guess yes he was relieved, but still I knew we would win.  If you remember last season when we played the Ducks and came back to win 4-3 in the third period…the Ducks said after we have to beat teams like that.  Meaning you have to beat the bottom feeders, well like it or not Tampa is a bottom feeder this year, we have to beat them.

Jackets fans it is March 9, we are sitting with 73 points 5 points out of the playoffs, and we have the same amount of points that we had at the END of last season.  That, my friends is a good feeling.  Whether we make the playoffs or not, we have surpassed everyone’s expectations, we are a good team, we have problems scoring goals, but hopefully Scott Howson can rectify that this off season.

Nothing really in Portzline’s post game re-cap…but I did like this..

Why did Tampa Bay D Shane O’Brien only want to fight Blue Jackets LW Jason Chimera when there was an official between them to prevent it from happening?

Shane, darling, you have been called out…by a beat writer!!  Maybe the lovely Finny, has something to say about it.

See, this game was difficult for me, because I like the Blue Jackets (…Okay, okay, I like Rick Nash, not the whole of the Blue Jackets), but my boys play on the Lightning. Honestly, I expected you guys to win, though. I mean…It’s the LIGHTNING.

Cat, who doesn’t love Rick Nash?! Haha, and yes, it was the Lightning, I am still in shock that we let in three goals and still won!!
