    My take on possible trades…

    By Bethany | February 18, 2008

Portzline wrote an article about possible trades for the Jackets…I just wanted to put my opinion on it up here on the blog.

Adam Foote, defenseman: Players such as Foote are coveted by playoff clubs, so the Jackets should expect a proven NHL player and No. 1 draft pick in return. If they get two or three teams in a bidding war, the return could increase. Possible partners: Colorado, Detroit, San Jose, Pittsburgh.

We’re not getting rid of our Captain. They are trying to negotiate a new contract with the Captain right now. We need Foote in our line-up, his leadership is absolutely priceless.

Sergei Fedorov, center: Even well-prepared GMs get enamored of “name” players at the deadline, which could be good for the Blue Jackets. Fedorov would net a first-round pick, or a player and a second-round pick. Possible partners: Detroit, Carolina, Ottawa, Montreal.

Feds is gone, he’s old, and as much as I like the guy, he will be gone at the deadline and that’s something that I am going to have to deal with. I just hope that we can get an actual player as opposed to a draft pick…but ya know…that’s just me.

Michael Peca, center: He hasn’t been great lately for the Blue Jackets, but he has a reputation for great postseason play. See Edmonton, 2006. Peca could net the Blue Jackets a late first-round pick or a prospect or a second-round pick. Possible partners: Ottawa, Carolina, Minnesota, New Jersey.

I don’t want to lose Michael Peca. We’re better with him in the line up. I want to re-sign him more than anything and I haven’t really heard any rumbles of him getting traded or re-signed, so maybe just maybe we can keep him.

Ron Hainsey, defenseman: A bit surprising that the Blue Jackets aren’t trying to sign him. Lots of playoff teams crave blue-line scoring, and Hainsey’s seven goals and 28 points are attractive. Possible partners: Montreal, San Jose, New Jersey, Ottawa.

Hainsey is such an amazing player, absolutely great. He’s becoming one of the best, and I certainly would love to re-sign him, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in Montreal, but other than that he looks the best in the Blue Jackets sweater.

David Vyborny, right winger: A brutal offensive season has killed his trade value. So a third-round pick might get it done. Possible partners: New Jersey, Buffalo, Dallas.

I have no idea what to think of Vybs, I know ownership absolutely loves him, but, he has slacked this season, and well I don’t think we will re-sign him.

Dick Tarnstrom, defenseman: Like Hainsey, blue-line skill makes his attractive. Fourth- or fifth-round pick. Possible partners: Minnesota, Buffalo, Vancouver.

We’re not trading Dick, we just got him.

Jan Hejda, defenseman: Underrated stay-at-home defenseman who could bring a fifth-round pick from somebody who wants depth. Possible partner: Colorado.

Jan Hejda has been an absolute brute for us this season. It’d be stupid not to re-sign him, but I suppose if we HAVE to, I will….support it, but that’s questionable.
