Jackets 7 Blackhawks 4

Well, the damn game wasn’t on tv so it was me refreshing the scoresheet and listening in on the radio. Seems like they picked the wrong game not to broadcast. So, all my information about this game is through newspapers and Aaron Portzline’s blog about last night. Last night was the Columbus Blue Jackets 500th game. The Jackets penalty kill was perfect last night going 6 for 6. We are now at 93.2% this season best in the NHL. Ole-Kristian Tollefsen scored the empty netter to cap off the victory with an assist from Fredrik Norrena! Dan Fritsche had two assists, Gilbert Brule had an assist, Rick Nash had two goals, Jiri Novotny also had two goals, and Nikolai Zherdev had a goal as well. Here’s what Hitchcock said about Nash who is on pace for 124 points this season:
“I don’t think he’s even on a hot streak. This is how he played the last two months of last season, then in the preseason and now so far this season. This is just how he’s played. Everybody looks at points, but there’s a lot more to it than that. He’s a difficult man to play against right now.”
I really hope he keeps it up. We need him to keep it up. Nash is our franchise guy, he has the skill, and he’s playing the best I have seen him in a long time.
Duvie Westcott was hit pretty hard by Kevyn Adams. He remained on the ice for about three minutes before skating off under his own power.
“He feels fine right now. We’re going to go through the right procedure to make sure he’s 100 percent. If he feels the way he feels right now and we get approval from the tests, he should be OK. I don’t think we’re going to put him out there for a couple of days. That’s scary, though. You see a guy down. You don’t want to see a guy lose his career over something like this.”
Duvie missed the last the last part of the season last season because of concussion symptons.
“It’s taken some time for us to find out who we are offensively,” Nash said. “I think we showed tonight, though, that if we’re playing good defense, we’re going to create some chances. Tonight, we created those chances and we finished them, too.”
Would have been great to see the game…but what can you do. Let’s hope we can keep this up. And, use this when the Blue’s come to town Thursday night.
