    Jackets 3 Blues 0 (Again)

    By Bethany | November 6, 2007

So with our win over the Blues we now have the second best record in the Western Conference behind Detroit.  This game was great Leclaire made some amazing saves to post his 5th shutout of the year.  *Basically this means I have to buy his bobble head now and if he gets 5 more shutouts this season I am buying a Leclaire jersey.*  Adam Foote was a true warrior as FSN Ohio kept putting it…the man had two assists on the night and let me tell you they were pretty plays.  Nikolai Zherdev was my star of the night.  He was playing like a bat out of hell, I absolutely adore him right now.  He’s playing like he gives a crap.  There was a great article in the Dispatch today by, Bob Hunter, talking about Zherdev and his new found ‘fun factor.’  Zherdev made such an amazing play last night and there is no way that I can describe it, I don’t have the words but Bob Hunter who is never short on words, was able to:

He deked a defenseman, skated into the St. Louis zone, deked another Blues player, then gave the puck a perfect backhand flip to Rick Nash to the right of the net. Nash caught the puck, waited for an opposing player to slide past him, and buried his shot at 18:09.

It was beautiful, what made it even more beautiful was Rick Nash waiting and waiting for the Blues player to slide out of the way it was absolutely gorgeous.  The Jackets are on a roll right now.  Hitch had this to say about Zherdev’s play as of late:

“I’ve always said he’s a very underrated player from the red-line back. For a top skill player, defensively he’s so good and he’s never out of position - his reads and sticks in lanes are incredible, and his zest to score is coming back.”

We are well above .500 and are learning how to win as a team.  As a fan base I believe we are in shock with our team.  I personally am in shock with what Leclaire has done.  He is certainly making me eat my words and is quickly becoming one of the many high points of this very young season.

I am truly anxious to see where this team is in December.  Win or lose I am their fan but it has been so much fun seeing them win.  Seeing Chimera last night get his ‘ugly’ goal and seeing the look on his face.  Seeing all of our players play well is a treat.

Also, last night for whatever reason the Blues were trying to get under the skin of Curtis Glencross who was in since Freddy Modin was out due to back spasms.  They attacked him and me having watched Glencross since his days of Cincinnati was worried that he may go after them but he held his cool and luckily Tollefsen went after the Blues players.  It was great to see the boys sticking up for one another.
