Goalie Love :)
By Bethany | November 6, 2007
I’ve ripped him apart in the past, mainly because I was bitter. He was never healthy an entire season and until this season I never had the opportunity to watch him play in person it was strictly television that I saw him play. Last season, I believed that Norrena was our #1 goaltender, however Leclaire has been hot and Norrena hasn’t gotten the chance to play as often as I would like to see him (not that I’m complaining, I’m happy seeing Leclaire in net). Leclaire was the second star for the month of October. He went 6-2 in October and had a 1.25 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage. Of his six wins four of them were by shutout. Leclaire has since tied the franchise best 5 shutouts a record set by Marc Denis in the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons. Leclaire is quick to credit the team for all of his shutouts. Michael Arace did an interview with Leclaire and posted it up on Puck-Rakers. When asked about how his shutouts here’s what Leclaire had to say:
I think the guys in front of me are doing a very good job. They only give up 20 shots a night. They block a lot of shots. Our PK is first in the league and that’s a big key. We don’t give up a lot of scoring chances. Once in a while, I’ve got to come up with a save – but they block a lot of things. It makes my life a lot easier.
Leclaire also goes on to say in most of the interviews he does that he doesn’t care about the shutout he’d be just as happy with any victory.
“The win column is the most important thing,” says Leclaire, known as “Pazzy” to his teammates. “To me, shutouts are just a bonus. They look good on paper but that’s not important.”
Let’s the hope the W’s keep on growin!!
