  • Ribeiro vs Osgood

    By Bethany | May 11, 2008

It starts with Osgood butt-ending Ribeiro, and it ends with Osgood getting slashed across the chest. It’s time for the wheel of punishment.

    Thanks Mr. Mac!!

    By Bethany | May 9, 2008

This video was from the Blue Jackets website. It is Rick Nash’s speech from the Memorial. I think it needs to be posted, also he talked about the scholarship fund, which, I plan on donating to. If you are interested in donating, go ahead and click here. Again, thank you Mr. Mac, for everything that you have done for the city of Columbus, the Blue Jackets, and for just being a great person. We miss you.

    I own you!!

    By Bethany | May 9, 2008

HA, so I have successfully purchased, Adam Foote, Aaron Rome, and Ken Hitchcock for myself.  And, have also purchased Jared Boll for my good friend Elisa.  However, when I first found out about it, I went to Rick Nash, he was $40 so I was like that’s dumb to spend that money on just Nash….however I purchased four players, for $40…maybe next week I will buy Nash…

    Playoff Previews!!

    By Bethany | May 9, 2008

This is actually my first post over at The Sports Diva Magazine, so I cross-posted it over here.  Enjoy!!

Unless you have been living under a rock, or are not a hockey fan, you know that the NHL Conference Finals started last night.  In the Western Conference Finals the Detroit Red Wings are facing the Dallas Stars, and in the Eastern Conference, you have a battle of Pennsylvania, with the Philadelphia Flyers facing off against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Let’s take a look at the matchups beginning in the West.  Detroit and Dallas, this should be a great series.  Detroit has plowed through the playoffs, since benching the ancient goaltender Dominic Hasek and bringing in Chris Osgood.  The Red Wings were the NHL best this season.  They defeated the Nashville Predators and swept the Colorado Avalanche.  They have strength in every position.  Goaltending, they have a one-two punch, with Hasek and Osgood.  Osgood has been nothing short of outstanding the entire season, he will continue to be outstanding through this round.  On the blue line you have Norris Trophy winners, Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Chelios.  Then with the forwards they have Johan Franzen, Pavel Datsyuk, and Henrik Zetterberg.  So who needs to step up for the Wings?  Really…everyone just needs to keep doing what they’re doing.

The Dallas Stars had a tough last round facing the San Jose Sharks.  The deciding game of the series went into FOUR overtimes.  Yes, you read that correctly, FOUR overtimes.
The Dallas Stars have been getting great goaltending from Marty Turco this post season, and their forwards are really showing up.  Here is where it gets fun, the Dallas Stars are a very defensively minded team, their team also has a very young defense.  That young defense was able to shut down in the first round Teemu Selanne, Ryan Getzlaf, and all of the other members of the Anaheim Ducks.  The second round, they shutdown Big Joe Thornton, Jonathan Cheechoo, and the San Jose Sharks.  Who needs to step it up in order for the Stars to beat the Red Wings?  Mike Modano.  He’s one of the greatest American born hockey players in the history of the NHL, he has to be great against the Red Wings.  Marty Turco, he has proven himself in the first two rounds, now he just needs to continue playing his game.

What does this series come down to?  Goaltending.  Chris Osgood has the best goals against average (GAA) in the NHL, Marty Turco has the second.  You want a prediction?  Red Wings in 6, I just don’t think the Stars have the ability to take down the Wings.

Onto the East.  The Battle of Pennsylvania!!  Philadelphia Flyers vs the Pittsburgh Penguins.  This series is the total opposite of the Wings/Stars series.  Both of these teams rely heavily on their offense, which who can blame them?  The Penguins are fronted by Sidney Crosby, Jordan Staal, and Evgeni Malkin.  The Flyers?  RJ Umberger has been an absolute horse so far, Daniel Briere, and Scott Hartnell.

The Philadelphia Flyers have made it through a game seven against the Washington Capitals and then were up against the Eastern Conference best, Montreal Canadiens.  The Flyers have made a huge turn around; last season they were the NHL worst, but making a few trades and getting some key free agents has turned this team around.  Marty Biron has been outstanding in his first ever post-season.  R.J. Umberger has come seemingly out of nowhere and has almost carried the Flyers offense.  The defense of the Flyers took a hit yesterday however, it was discovered that Kimmo Timonen would be unavailable for the remainder of the playoffs due to a blood clot.  So, who needs step up for the Flyers?  Daniel Briere.  He can’t let R.J. Umberger handle all the offense.  Marty Biron has to be superb in order for the Flyers to beat the Pens.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have surpassed my expectations.  I never seem to give them enough credit.  The Penguins flew by the Senators and then beat up on the New York Rangers, apparently they learned something in those five games last playoffs.  Marc Andre Fleury has been great for them as well.  So who needs to step it up for the Pens?  Gary Roberts, I think his veteran leadership is extremely important to this team.  Sidney Crosby, oh who am I kidding?  He has been outstanding.  Marc Andre Fleury needs to continue to make those key saves.

What does this series come down to?  I’m going to say defense.  Whichever team is able to shutdown the other teams offense, will win.  But, this series is going to be a great series for fans of the new NHL.  There will be a lot of goals, and a lot of up and down action.
    My prediction?  Penguins in seven.

    Remember the Moments…Part 2

    By Bethany | May 8, 2008

Sidney Crosby winning the outdoor game. I may not be a fan of the kid, but that was a great moment, not just for me but for the entire NHL. That was one of the best hockey games I have ever seen. I got chills watching it…and look at the snow falling down!! I wish it was January again!!

Seeing him in that jersey again made me happy.  Yes, I am aware of what he did to the Blue Jackets, and yes it hurt a lot when he left, but I think it was best for our franchise moving forward.  I wish nothing but the best for Adam Foote and will always be a huge fan…and if I take grief for it, then so be it.

This still to this day, cracks me up.  Seeing the brothers Staal in mug shots.  TOO funny!!  Jordan looks like a little kid.

My twin had this photo up on her blog, and it made me smile.  There are good times ahead for both of these Captains.  Also, I think that they got together because they knew Tracy and I would love this pictures.

Also, Dion Phaneuf has the biggest butt I have ever seen in my entire life.  This picture does it no justice…go here and watch the video, and tell me that is not the biggest bootie…like ever.  Also, I would just like to say that Elisha Cuthbert has got to be the biggest puckbunny out there.  Sean Avery. Mike Komisarek. And, now the Dion.  I am surprised that HG hasn’t come out of hiding.

    Syracuse, Legein, Pazzy & More!!

    By Bethany | May 7, 2008

**I wrote this Tuesday night, and it won’t post until Wednesday morning**

How good are the Syracuse Crunch?  I read this really interesting fact in the Syracuse Crunch’s blog:

    - Syracuse’s current hot streak might be unprecedented in the history of the AHL.

Since Feb. 18, the Crunch has played 31 games, including six in the postseason. It has only lost once in regulation, in Game 4 to Manitoba. Overall, its record is 26 wins, one regulation loss, one overtime loss and three shootout losses.

The only comparable streak was turned in by Cleveland in 1948. That team was 21-0-6 in its last 27 games in the regular season and then went 8-1 in winning the Calder Cup. So it closed 29-1-6.

That is pretty impressive.  The Crunch are currently up in their series 2-0 and are playing right now, and are currently losing 4-1 with a little over two minutes left in the second.  Let’s hope the boys can pull it together and get it going.

Also, in Crunch news, Stefan Legein was asked to leave Syracuse to go and start working out.  If you remember Stefan got hurt at the Juniors tournament and was out for quite a bit.  My guess, from his facebook pictures, is that he spent a little too much time having a good time with his buddies…and not enough time working on getting stronger.  Anyway, let’s hope that  he works hard this summer and can make it to the AHL next season.

Pazzy and Howson will not be talking about a contract until after the Worlds…they end on May 18th…I expect a contract to be done by the first week in June…but we’ll see.  Also, according to Puck-Rakers there have been no contract talks between Michael Peca (Please sign Pecs I <3 you) or Ron Hainsey.

Uhm…also Steve Mason will NOT be playing in the Memorial Cup.  I feel awful about that.

PS: Just checked the score of the Crunch game…erm, it’s 6-1 Toronto, I suppose we will call that one a loss.  However, on a happy note, Jiri T-LUSTY has a goal and an assist…so far.  Go Crunch!!

    Eastern/Western Conference Final Predictions

    By Bethany | May 6, 2008

As you know I am pretty sucky on the predictions this year. However, I do have some predictions for the conference finals that I would like to share with you. So here we go…

    Eastern Conference

    Penguins vs Flyers

Sidney Crosby and his band of …. hockey players will face off against the Flyers. Now, this is one that I am going to have serious issues making a pick. The Penguins have been playing some amazing hockey, as have the Flyers. MAF has been outstanding for them. The Flyers have been playing crazy good hockey, however Marty Biron has not been that outstanding for them. Here’s my comparison of goaltenders

    Marty Biron vs MAF

    Save % .914 | .938

    GAA 2.72 | 1.76

Now, this may be a little off, MAF, has only played 9 games whereas Marty B has played 12. So, what is my prediction…I DO NOT KNOW!! I didn’t want either of these teams to make it this far. So what it comes down to me is who has the most players that I like…my heart is continuing to pick my choices

    Pens | Flyers

    Jordan Staal | Joffrey Lupul

    Ty Conklin | Jason Smith

    Kris Beech | Scottie Upshall

    Evgeni Malkin | Patrick Thoresen

    Jarkko Ruutu | *******

Well there is my list…so I suppose the Pens win. And that is my pick.

    Western Conference

    Red Wings vs Stars

This is much easier for me.  Red Wings will win it.  Look what they have, that the Stars don’t have a capable goaltender, legitimate scorers, and a solid defense.  Well so the only thing that the Wings have that the Stars don’t is a solid d, and the only reason I don’t say the Dallas d is solid is because they’re so young.  I have no idea, how this is going to go, but my pick is Wings.

These should be too solid series, especially Pens and Flyers, I can’t wait for them to start!!

    Remember Rick Nash?!

    By Bethany | May 6, 2008

    captainnash.jpg

So I thought it would be fun to remember the good times in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization. Anyway, here are some of the headlines after Nash was drafted and some of his big headlines with his big goals and whatever else.

So there is just some of the reasons why Rick Nash is awesome. If you have any other headlines that you feel I should put up please post them in here. Our Captain is doing well in the worlds and has apparently recovered from his surgery. He is playing on a line with Dany Heatley and also Ryan Getzlaf.

Also, I can never get enough of this video.
